It has been found in TIDAL company hard drive the streaming platform’s play-counts for two major albums from 2016 – Beyoncé’s “Lemonade” and Kanye West’s “The Life Of Pablo” – had been artificially inflated!
A Norwegian outlet reported: ‘Beyoncé’s and Kanye West’s listener numbers on TIDAL have been manipulated to the tune of several hundred million false plays… which has generated massive royalty payouts at the expense of other artists.’
The outlet stated that Norway’s National Authority for Investigation and Prosecution of Economic and Environmental Crime (Økokrim) has begun an investigation into potential ‘fake streams’ at TIDAL in January.
In 2016 three employees, two of which worked Business Analyst roles at TIDAL, while the third was TIDAL’s Head of Business Intelligence – responsible for analyzing streaming figures first detected foul play and massive fraud. This trio recognized signs of manipulation regarding the relevant Kanye West and Beyoncé albums; the group then contacted a Lawyer before informing TIDAL management about their findings, after which an internal meeting was held.
The outcome of the meeting was seen in all three individuals subsequently resigning from TIDAL after signing what a Norwegian source calls “the gold standard of confidentiality contracts” in second half of 2016.
But the three employees leaving TIDAL “abruptly” and “simultaneously” raised red flags. Manipulation and threats are being investigated from the higher ups and artists involved — Beyonce Knowles and Kanye West & Founder Jay Z.
Owing to which, in 2016, Norwegian collection society Tono, which represents around 30,000 songwriters, had filed an official Police complaint against TIDAL.
Of late, Beyonce Knowles has been accused of fraud by wedding planner Veronica Morales over her company’s title “Blue Ivy” since 2017 – the year when Beyonce decided to trademark her daughter’s name. She accused Beyonce of trying to get her hands on the “coveted trademark fraudulently” and framed the singer in a legal battle.
Do you believe said artists have committed other frauds too?
